Koi do not have stomachs. They must digest food as they eat. This isn't ideal for the koi, but unfortunately, the majority of koi keepers have no choice but to feed before work, and after work.
This means the koi will not get the full benefit from the food you feed, and will probably mean your koi produce more waste than they would if fed many, smaller amounts.
Also, you might notice ammonia spikes shortly after feeding.
Using an autofeeder solves these problems. The auto feeders are programmable to feed at regular intervals, which will mean the koi eat the right amount, and almost all the food will be fully digested (although you may have the odd greedy koi!), meaning less waste in the pond, and less waste of your hard earned cash.
Some studies have shown that many small feeds can increase growths rates in favourable conditions. |
