Filter units are available for all ponds, from 500 gallons to over 20,000 gallons.
It is important to filter koi ponds as the waste produced by the koi is toxic.
A complete filter system for a koi pond would be able to filter out large, solid waste, we call this Mechanical Filtration. Settlement is also seen, although it is not always practical when space is an issue.
Then the toxic Ammonia and Nitrite, and the cause of green water, Nitrate, must be removed, we call this Biological Filtration.
Typical systems consist of a vortex followed by a multibay filter (such as the Kockney Koi/Filter Factory products), a fine screen filter (such as a sieve/answer) followed by a bead filter (such as a BubbleBead) or a Nexus unit.
Trickle towers, sand filters, fluid bed filters, and cartridge filters can be added to your koi pond too. |
